The Birmingham Botanical Gardens, a Beautiful Place to Learn and Explore

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is an awe-inspiring place that has been open for more than 100 years. The gardens are home to many different types of flowers and plants from all over the world. It’s also a popular destination for locals, visitors to our city, and even students of all ages who come here to learn. Visitors can walk through English Garden, Japanese Garden and China Pavilion, among others, at their leisure; they’re free!

The English Garden was added in 1912 and is among the oldest of its kind in the South. It contains a diverse assortment of flowering trees, shrubs and perennials, as well as a Victorian gazebo that houses original furnishings from the Birmingham Botanical Society’s early gatherings.

This area also includes beautiful formal walkways, an ornamental gate and stone bridge, a wisteria arbour blooms in the spring and a graceful rock garden with an intimate brook.

In 2000, more than 3,000 azaleas were planted as part of an extensive renovation effort for this area. The result? A beautiful mass of colour from mid-March through April. With so much beauty, it is a place to visit:
